Insight and Nonsense : The Music Snobs

I am no expert on this topic but I've met my fair share of such people. They emerge in every genre of music imaginable from reggae to classical to house music. It divides what music is supposed to be about; bringing people together. Some consider themselves musical authority but the forget art has no boundaries and thus it cannot be judged. They are the music snobs of niche categories. For some reason the prevalence of these creatures is more obvious in house music. They frequently do not appreciate any other kind of music except for what they feel is "different" and acceptable in their ears. The Urban Dictionary defines the music snob as :

"A person who believes s/he has a more refined taste in music and has much more knowledge in the field of music in general. Every song and genre is unacceptable unless the snob happens to like it, then it is absolute perfection. Music snobs feel obligated to enlighten everyone with unwelcome critiques and irrelivant musical trivia."

In my opinion ,drugs can be blamed for such things. It is impossible to appreciate Lady Gaga when you are stoned. Only John Digweed can give you the trip you need. I used to be one of them, but realized how much I was missing out on( not meaning LG but I do love that new "telephone" song i'll admit ) In house I constantly run across people who "hate minimal" or dislike anything which they don't consider to be "underground". It gets on my nerves. I would love to see these idiots come up with something better. Really. I'm serious.

Secondly, people tend to create cliques around certain types of music , excluding or downgrading anyone who does not share the same appreciation and dedication, like a Cult. It disgusts me. You are entitled to your opinion, don't get me wrong. Just don't go running your musical propaganda on untarnished and innocent souls. It's irritating and highly immature. Some of us just love to have a good time, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Then again, I will go ahead and contradict myself and say : Are DJ's not music snobs of some sort? Don't they have to be?  Define a genre, pick the best tracks (usually they come from the underground), create a following of like music snob followers? We'll give DJ's a free pass in this argument. Normally they grew up listening to all sorts of genres and still find inspiration in them to this day. Some of the best producers and DJ's continuously travel the world just looking for new styles and ideas.

My point here is , appreciate every genre of music out there because house music brings it all together one way or another. If you dislike hip-hop, don't forget, that's how house music came to be. If you dislike minimal, go see Richie Hawtin spin, I swear you'll change your mind.
