The Art of Being a DJ

“When music technology takes the place of musicianship, it's time to pull the plug”
Robert Brown

I can't imagine the feeling that my father gets when he sees his classic turntable and 70's record collection as it sits glistening in our living room hooked up to massive speakers - Led Zeppelin play on repeat. But, I feel like I'm getting closer to that unprecedented feeling of nostalgia. I mean, its nothing new - our house is an overflow of technology from 1970 to 2011 - he just doesn't have the heart to throw it out. Boxes of wires and cables take up an entire room; miles of printers; computers that you did not even know existed (We have an Osbourne 1 - the first portable computer ever built - giant floppy disks and all)

Sasha's "Last Night on Earth"

As I flipped through my Facebook, I noticed that front and centre was this major announcement that I somehow missed. For Shame! So for those of you who didn't already know, Sasha has launched a brand new label called "Last Night on Earth". The Facebook page tells the whole story much better than I could so here it is:

House Music has Gone Commercial. Is this what we wanted?

There's something strange going on out there. Clubland has gone commercial. Our little world we used to call our own has now been exposed to the masses and is taking front stage. Every hip hop artist is looking for a house music producer, everybody wants to be a DJ and nobody has an ounce of talent. Like Paris Hilton for example. Tasteless sounds have taken of the airwaves to a new level of stupidity in music. Don't get me wrong, I love house music, all kinds, just not the cheap type of garbage that seems to have taken over the world. BT even tweeted that Pixar has been approaching him to learn about house music. A feature movie on house music? They must be doing something right.

Review: It's Artificial | Andrew Bayer

The summer has been brazen with the best releases of music I've heard in a long time. I've never been a trance devotee, but the merchandise that's coming out from that side of electronica has had me switching gears this season.

Review: Group Therapy | Above & Beyond

After many years in the making, Above & Beyond have finally released their much anticipated album, Group Therapy. I don't know what the point is of me really doing a review because you know I'm going to tell you that it's one of the best trance album I've ever heard, rivalling Paul Van Dyk's The Politics of Dancing.

Don't Lose the Music: The Best Protection

You may find it strange that I'm covering this but its for your own sake, so bear with me. This is a topic that is very near and dear to DJ's and club and concert goers alike: Our precious ears. Without them we would not be able to enjoy the various audible sensations the world presents to us on a daily basis.
